Built in the 1800’s, ‘The Barn’ nestles at the foot of Honister Pass at the head of the beautiful Borrowdale Valley. It is constructed from local stone and looking at the exposed oak roof beams, it is clear that they had an even earlier use - probably in the hull of a ship.

For walking and mountaineering it is an ideal base in the heart of Lakeland. Scafell Pike, Great Gable, Glaramara, Dale Head, etc. can be walked from the door.

Indeed, at The Barn it is quite possible to abandon your car for the period of your stay.
Use the regular buses and/or the Derwentwater ferry to enhance your days. |

Try a little consumer therapy and choose from the many pubs, restaurants, tea and coffee shops in the area.
There is little need to chain yourself to the kitchen sink if you don’t want to!
